Prompts that work

A prompt is the instruction you give the model for this request. Vague prompts get vague work. Strong prompts look like a brief, not a wish.

Useful parts

| Part | Job |
|------|-----|
| **Task** | What to produce |
| **Context** | Who it’s for, background |
| **Constraints** | Hard limits (no invented numbers, length) |
| **Format** | Shape (bullets, table, email) |
| **Checks** | How you’ll verify before send |

Standing rules

If you repeat the same tone and “never invent numbers” rules every time, put them in custom instructions or a saved skill. Keep secrets out of standing text.

Practice

Rewrite one real work request with all five parts. Compare the first output to your old one-liner prompt.
